of these small markets which are dark and confined. The cost of current will be recovered by increasing the rents of the stalls. Provision has also been made for the installation

of electric fans and lights in the Ellis Kadoorie School which will be taken over by this Government in January next, as sanction-

ed in your despatch No.157 of the 23rd June, 1914.

For the provisions of $10,500 and $1,000 for the resumption of piers at Hongkong and Kowloon respectively, I would refer you to my remarks to the Council.

Water Works. The increase of $16,500 on the original estimate for the Bonham Road Pumping Station is due to certain unforeseen expenditure as follows:-

(a). Talue of new pipes for the pumping main to

the Peak to replace the existing pipes

which were found on being taken up to be unfit for further use.

(b). Value of pipes taken up credited to

"Stores Depreciation".

(c). Extras on contract on foundations and

walls of Pumping Station and Chimney

Shaft.

(d). Retaining wall at rear of station

necessitated by a slip which occurred during the typhoon of 1913.
